The sleigh was all packed, the reindeer were fed,
But Santa still knelt by the side of the bed.
"Dear Father," he prayed "Be with me tonight.
There's much work to do and my schedule is tight.
I must jump in my sleigh and streak through the sky,
Knowing full well that a reindeer can't fly.
I will visit each household before the first light,
I'll cover the world and all in one night.
With sleigh bells a-ringing , I'll land on each roof,
Amid the clatter of each little hoof.
To get in the house is the dif...
It was a cool late fall Sunday. Our church services were held at one of the oldest local concert theaters in town. A team of us would show up at O-dark-thirty to load the instruments, set up the stage and the cameras and projects for the service. After set up, we would clean up the remnants of the concert the night before which would not be appropriate for children or just in general for a church service.
Someone would always bring in breakfast for the team, which was always appreciated. We ha...
It is a classic. How the Grinch stole Christmas.
We
have all read Dr. Seuss’s book to our children and watched the
movie on television. The story about the funny looking green guy who
gets so annoyed at the people from Who-ville, so annoyed at their
joy, laughter and Christmas spirit that he decides that he is going
to take all of the fun right out of their Who-ville spirit and steal
away their Christmas. He had the notion that if he stole their
presents, their trees, their decorations an...
This week I took a frozen turkey and put it in the refrigerator to defrost. I realized how that was very similar to what had happened to my brain recently. It took three days to defrost both the turkey and my brain.
My frozen lips could only come out with “Help me!” That heart cry started a God-brain-defrost.
God appears to be in the refrigeration business. Relief came slowly, like the defrosting of a turkey. I was becoming aware that my brain had been hardening from my daily devotions. My ...
A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be assured that if any mischief occurred in their town their two young sons were in some way involved.

The parents were at their wits end as to what to do about their sons' behavior. The mother had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so she asked her husband if he thought they should send the boys t...
I work in Memory Care. Unfortunately in Memory Care Units people die. That’s a fact of live. Dementia has many unexplained symptoms. One symptom is hallucinations, so they say. Many times I have a resident which seem to talk to people from their past.
We have just celebrated Thanksgiving. I had two of my residents go home to God this Thanksgiving weekend. Thank God for taking them home to join him.
I have to share with you the events which proceeded the departure of my second resident (we'll...
Psalms 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
In Budapest, a man goes to the rabbi and complains, "Life is unbearable. There are nine of us living in one room. What can I do?"
The rabbi answers, "Take your goat into the room with you." The man is bewildered and resistant, but the rabbi insists. "Do as I say and come back in a week."

A week later the man comes back looking more distraught than before. "We cannot stand it," he tells the rabbi. "The go...
“Pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18
Life is full of challenges and some of you are in the midst of one right now. Maybe like the Israelites in Psalm 107 you’ve gone from one difficult period to another. They were hungry and thirsty wanderers in the desert, prisoners in chains, sailors reeling in terror at the furious storm…each time they cried out to the Lord and He saved them. Rememb...

'Well,' said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, 'these puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.'
The boy dropped his head for ...
Psalms 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and saw that she had only three hairs on her head. "Great," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today."
So she did and had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "Hmm," she said, "I guess I'll part my hair down the middle."
So she did and had a wonderful day.
The...
When my brother was about 10, he was friends with our neighbor 11. We lived in the country and spent the majority of our time outdoors. We had a little stable with two stalls. It always seemed to become the clubhouse when there weren’t any animals occupying it.
One time when they were playing they found a frog. These two boys were your typical mischievous boys, not much thought about life and death, or consideration for nature and animals. They took the frog and threw it, killing it. Don’...

I heard my family talking about the next holiday,
Thanksgiving...
They said it was a celebration with turkeys...

I don't want to miss out...

I sure enjoy a good party...
Do you think I'll fit in?
Isn't it funny how we give up our identity, the being God created, to be like someone else. Just wanting to be accepted by others in this world. As we give up our identity we lose our joy and...
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7
A man was walking one day when he heard a woman screaming hysterically. He looked over to see she was kneeling in front of her child. He was able to get the woman to calm down enough to discover the boy had swall...
Sandra felt as low as the heels of her shoes as she pushed against a November gust and the florist shop door. Her life had been easy, like a spring breeze. Then in the fourth month of her second pregnancy, a minor automobile accident stole her ease.
During this Thanksgiving week she would have delivered a son. She grieved over her loss. As if that weren’t enough, her husband’s company threatened a transfer. Then her sister, whose annual holiday visit she coveted, called saying she could no...
We have all learned to live with “voice mail” as a necessary part of modern life. But have you wondered what would happen if God decided to install voice mail? Imagine praying and hearing this:
